Gum Surgery
A beautiful smile is the sum of many elements. The gum tissues in particular, plays a fundamental role. A fine art print will not be appreciated if it was not framed appropriately. Our gum tissues are frames for our teeth and plays a big role in how appealing our smile will look.

Excess Tissue
A gummy smile can be the result of excessive gum tissue covering the enamel surface. In this case, a procedures such as “Crown Lengthening” may be performed to reduce this extra tissue (and sometimes the bone tissue underneath) to reveal more height to the tooth.
Receding Gums
In many cases, gums can shrink pull back from our tooth, exposing a portion of the tooth root. The tooth will thus appear longer giving an ageing appearance. The exposed root areas can also be sensitive to temperature, touch and be more prone to decay. There are various microsurgical procedures to guide the growth of the gum back to its original position. This is often achieved by moving gingival (gum) tissue from one area of the mouth to another or using laboratory processed tissues from another donor.
Uneven Gum Line
Uneven gum line where some teeth are covered by more tissues than others, it is possible to re-contour the tissues to achieve a desirable shape. This can be done either with a conventional surgical blade or with a surgical laser. Here at Christchurch Boutique Dental, we advocate the use of laser as it is a near pain free experience and do not require local anaesthetic. Another advantage of laser is that it seals the tissue as it sculpts it, giving the whole procedure a much shorter healing time.
